Riverside Public Utilities Department
Power Planning & Marketing Manager
Riverside Public Utilities, a Department of the City of Riverside, is a full-service, vertically-integrated utility that employs 600 people and serves approximately 65,000 water meters and 105,000 electric meters in Southern California. Annual revenues total $301 million. The Power Planning and Marketing Manager is responsible for Riverside Public Utilities Department's planning, development, identification, procurement and management of wholesale power resources. In addition, the Manager will oversee natural gas procurement necessary to operate gas-fired generation. The entire power supply budget for Riverside is $180 million dollars, which includes debt service. Reporting to the Utilities Assistant General Manager - Resources, and managing a staff of five, this position plays a critical role in effectively managing electric power supply and acquiring lowest cost resources. This position requires a broad base of knowledge and experience in the utility industry including resource planning, analysis and scheduling; power trading and marketing; data analysis; risk management; and supervision capabilities. The position also requires the ability to develop business relationships with outside parties including private and public utilities, marketing/trading firms, power brokers, and regulatory agencies. Fully qualified candidates will possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in finance, statistics, business, engineering, economics, or other field considered appropriate. In addition, candidates must possess five to seven years of progressively responsible supervisory and administrative experience in public utilities resource management, contract administration and public utilities resource planning, development, project administration or consulting. Snohomish County PUD
Sr. Manager, Substation, Metering & Telecommunication Services
Snohomish County PUD is the 12th largest publicly owned electric utility in the United States with revenues over $644 million serving approximately 19,000 water customers and 320,000 electric customers in Snohomish County and Camano Island, Washington. The power delivery system includes approximately 6,000 power line miles, 115,000 power poles, 90,565 transformers, 314 miles of high-voltage transmission power lines, and 86 substations. Snohomish County PUD intends to implement a comprehensive and robust smart grid system from over the next decade. In addition, the District is an internationally recognized leader in the research and development of renewable resources. This Senior Manager will oversee the design, construction, and maintenance of substations, metering, apparatus, and telecommunication services. He or she will oversee a 90-person department responsible for $6 to $30 million in capital projects annually. Some current capital investments include: development of a digital subnet telecommunication system by running fiber between all 86 substations; a five-year, $15 to $18 million substation automation conversion program; and construction of two new substations. The successful candidate will possess at least ten years of progressively more responsible experience in an electric utility or related industry which includes five years in a supervisory role. Technical expertise must include a combination of substation design, substation automation, and telecommunications. In addition, fully qualified candidates will possess background in substation and telecommunication construction, project management, and capital budgeting. Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Electric or Electric Power Engineering and must be a Registered Professional Engineer with the ability to register as a Professional Engineer in Washington State within six months. Frankfort Plant Board
General Manager
The Frankfort Plant Board is seeking an experienced and dedicated professional to serve as the General Manager of this electric, water, and telecommunication utility located in Frankfort, Kentucky. The General Manager is responsible to provide strategic leadership and to direct all activities within the Frankfort Plant Board. This includes managing 200 employees and a budget that exceeds $81 million. The electric system serves over 21,000 customers and experienced a peak demand in 2009 of approximately 152 MW. The water operation supplies approximately 2.4 billion gallons of water annually to 16,000 retail customers, six wholesale water districts, and one municipal water system. The Frankfort Plant Board telecommunication utility furnishes cable television, telephone, Internet access, dark fiber and home security services to customers in the Frankfort and surrounding area. The General Manager will report to an appointed, five-member Board of Directors and will be responsible for continuous improvement of the organization. He or she should offer a proven track record of providing vision, participating in strategic planning with governing bodies and staff in collaborative effort, and employing long- and short-term planning efforts. Ideal candidates will offer a continual record of career advancement with quantifiable successes that include executive management of more than one key function within a vertically integrated utility operation. The Frankfort Plant Board will require exemplary communication and interpersonal skills. In addition, candidates must be adept at budget development, have experience and working knowledge of accounting and finance, be an experienced manager, understand the need for quality customer service, and understand rate formulation. Negotiating and consensus building skills will be key attributes. The General Manager is expected to participate in civic and community activities and become an integral part of the community. Additional experience with economic development activities is also desired. A Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field is required. Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU)
Division Manager Transmission
Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU) is seeking a Division Manager Transmission to oversee the control and operation of the electric system to provide a reliable, continuous supply of energy to the customer. This reliability exists because of two different groups, Electric Transmission and the Electric Dispatch group, each having their own distinct areas of responsibility. The Dispatch group monitors and operates the SCADA system which oversees each of the 20 electrical substations, operates the radio and paging system used to dispatch line and service crews, and implements switching orders for the transmission and distribution circuits within the BTU service territory. The primary purpose of this group is to receive reports of electrical outages and/or problems from customers and dispatch necessary personnel to the affected site to identify and correct the problem. The Transmission group inspects both rural and city substations, schedules, repairs and maintains on all electrical equipment in the 20 electrical substations. Equipment, with voltages varying from 12.5 kV to 138 kV, is tested to verify performance. The Division Manager Transmission supervises a total staff of 18 including the following direct reports: Supervisory Dispatch Operator, Transmission Engineer, Supervisor Substation Maintenance, and a Senior Engineer. The Division Manager reports to the Group Manager of Transmission & Distribution, who in turn reports to the General Manager (CEO). The ideal candidate will have a blend of technical education and managerial skills. Qualified candidates will also offer project management expertise, as well as, financial and budgeting acumen. Ideally, he or she will offer six to ten years of combined experience in the areas of transmission engineering, construction, operations and/or maintenance. In addition, fully qualified individuals will possess a Bachelor's degree in business, engineering or other applicable disciplines. An advanced degree and previous experience working within the ERCOT market is desired, but not mandatory. The successful candidate must have strong communication and leadership abilities, be a customer focused leader of employees, and capable of interacting with a wide range of community leaders and customers on a regular basis.
